About Us

Welcome to City Centre Labour, your grassroots Labour team for Manchester’s vibrant city centre. We represent the people living, working, and visiting Deansgate, Castlefield, Chinatown, St John’s, Spinningfields, Southern Gateway, Manchester Central Station, Victoria Street, and Oxford Road. Since 2018, your City Centre Labour councillors—Marcus, Joan, and Anthony—have been driven by a simple ethos: stand with our community and deliver real change.

Our Mission

We believe a fair, green, and inclusive city centre is not just aspirational—it’s essential. With hundreds of city centre residents and thousands more commuting daily, our mission is to:

  • Champion smart development that safeguards affordable housing and supports community facilities
  • Boost green space and deliver cleaner streets, backed by a £2.3 million investment.
  • Strengthen services: from accessible NHS dentistry to new local schools and doctors’ surgeries.
  • Tackle climate emergency by prioritising sustainable transport, low‑carbon buildings, and urban greening.
  • Support renters and leaseholders, abolishing Section 21 no‑fault evictions and holding rogue landlords to account.

Our Achievements

Since being elected, we’ve worked tirelessly to:

  • Open the first new primary school in decades—Crown Street Primary—bringing vital education capacity into the heart of town.
  • Kickstart environmental improvements on Mirabel Street, introducing planters and community planting for cleaner streets.
  • Secure record council home building and launch leasehold reform to increase housing security.
  • Wield £2.3 m in bold reinvestment for cleaner, greener neighbourhoods—used to enhance street cleaning and enforcement.

Who We Are

We are your local voices—three Labour councillors rooted in the city centre, known for being accessible and engaged:

  • Marcus Johns, your Labour Co‑op councillor since 2018, father and local resident fighting for climate action and affordable homes.
  • Joan and Anthony, your committed city centre representatives, collaborating daily to deliver practical improvements across the ward.
